We are excited to announce that registration is now open for our virtual 81st Annual Conference scheduled for Saturday, November 7th through Sunday, November 8th, 2020.

This year’s conference will feature four different tracks including: Radiologic Sciences, MRI, Ultrasound, and Radiation Therapy. Attendees can earn up to 9.5 hours of Category A Continuing Education (CE) Credits through ASRT and Continuing Qualifications Requirements (CQR) through ARRT designed specifically for California CRT license renewal (pending ASRT approval).

Cancellation Policy

Kristine Bowlin, BS, RT(T)

Kristine Bowlin, Manager of Radiation Oncology at Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles, is a seasoned radiation therapist who has experience treating both adult and pediatric patient populations. She is actively engaged with research and the radiation therapy trade, having authored many articles and presented at numerous conferences. In addition, she has guest lectured to radiation therapy students enrolled at National University. Outside of the clinic, Kristine enjoys hiking, gardening, cycling and has recently taken up roller hockey.

Dennis Bowman, RT(R), CRT(R)(F)

Dennis Bowman has 40-plus years’ experience working as a radiographer and over half that as a clinical instructor. His major areas of expertise are techniques, the practical aspects of digital imaging, fluoroscopic radiation protection, and positioning. He has developed essential material concerning CR and DR lower dose techniques and presents this information at regional and international radiology seminars. His Universal Technique Charts are used exclusively in Merrill’s Atlas of Radiographic Positioning and Procedures. He co-founded FluoroRadPro with Leslie Stiff-Martin. Dennis is also a co-author with Quinn Carroll on their textbook titled "Adaptive Radiography with Trauma, Image Critique and Critical Thinking". Dennis retired at the beginning of 2019 and currently spends most of his time paragliding, working out at the gym, and playing with his grandsons.

Stewart Bushong, ScD, FAAPM, FACR

Dr. Stewart Bushong graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Physics and followed that with two years in the U. S. Public Health Service at the National Reactor Testing Station in Idaho. He then worked for the Westinghouse Testing Reactor and attended the University of Pittsburgh where he obtained his Sc.D. in medical physics. He proudly relates how he moved from nuclear physics to medical physics early in his career. He participated in the accidental melt-down of two different nuclear reactors – the SL-1 in Idaho and the WTR in Pennsylvania. Upon Graduation, Dr. Bushong joined the radiology faculty of Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) where he rose to the rank of professor. During his 40-plus years at BCM, Dr. Bushong has published 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 43 books. His classic “Radiologic Science for Technologists” is in its eleventh edition and has been translated into six languages. Dr. Bushong has served in executive positions for the American Association of Physicists in Medicine and the American College of Medical Physics. He was appointed by Governor Ann Richards of Texas to chair the inaugural “Texas Medical Physics Licensure Board” and holds Medical Physics license number 0001.

Richard Carlton, R.T.(R)(CV), FAEIRS

Richard Carlton is an Associate Professor and former Director of Radiologic and Imaging Sciences at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He previously taught Radiography at Arkansas State University, City College of San Francisco and Lima Technical College, and worked as a Clinical Coordinator at Wilbur Wright Community College. Recognized as a Charter Fellow and past president of A.E.I.R.S., Richard gives presentations around the world and founded Lambda Nu, the national honor society for radiologic and imaging sciences. He has written 36 books, started two professional journals, and served as a J.R.C.E.R.T. site visitor for 40 years. Richard earned an M.S. from National Louis University, a B.S. from The Chicago Medical School, and an A.A.S. from Illinois Central College. He is ARRT certified in C.V. and radiography and continues to train residents at West Michigan Regional Laboratory in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Quinn Carroll, MEd, RT(R)

After 32 years as a radiography program director, Quinn B. Carroll took his retirement from Midland College in Texas as an assistant professor to write full time. Quinn has published five textbooks and a number of articles. He has presented over 120 seminars in Canada and the USA, and dozens of presentations and on-line courses for state societies and the ASRT. He served the JRCERT as a site visitor for several years and recently served on the ASRT Curriculum Revision Committee for Radiography. Quinn received his Master of Education degree from the University of Wyoming and his BS degree from the University of Utah, where he also obtained his radiography training at the University Medical Center

Morgan Castellvi, CCDS, CRAT

Morgan Castellvi currently serves as a Senior Technical Service Specialist for Abbott Laboratories in their Cardiac Rhythm Management sector in Seattle, WA. She graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a Biological Sciences degree and furthered her cardiac studies at a specialized program in Boston, PrepMD. Morgan functions as a clinical expert for pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and cardiac monitors, providing her knowledge to Electrophysiologists, Cardiologists and Cardiothoracic surgeons. She specializes in ensuring proper implantation during surgery, device programming and troubleshooting, and cardiac device education.

Alisha Chlebik, BS, RT(T)

Alisha Chlebik, a radiation therapist, has spent the last decade treating pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She has lent her expertise in this special patient population to academic and clinical research in the form of published articles and conference presentations. In addition, she is a clinical preceptor and has appeared as a guest lecturer at National University. In the rare instance she isn’t participating in research or clinical care of patients, Alisha can be found traveling or prepping for the annual Malibu Triathlon.

Jennifer Dowdall, BS, RDMS

Jennifer (Jenny) Dowdall currently serves as a Regional Manager for an ultrasound division. Her journey began with a baccalaureate degree from Northern AZ University and that lead to management of a medical clinic. Intrigued with medicine, Jenny investigated PA school but backpedaled when she realized that ultrasound was the wave of the future. She was accepted into the Pima Medical Institute accelerated program and achieved her ARDMS. Prior to jumping head-first into the corporate world, Jenny had achieved a successful career as a clinical sonographer. Her experience ranged from trauma to interventional radiology and during this time she used that experience working with United States Navy veterinarians scanning dolphins and sea lions looking for vascular pathology and cataracts. In addition, Jenny worked with the United States Navy Seals during BUDS training. She also had the pleasure working with Team Physicians and Athletic trainers for collegiate athletics. Jenny also has fantastic stories from her experience working with many professional athletic teams (NFL, MLB, MLS). Though Jenny’s current emphasis is management in sales and clinical application, her passion is education. Jenny facilitates musculoskeletal courses around the world where she presents, educates and scans while teaching, working with world renowned Radiologists. Her vast experience with ultrasound equipment and efficacy crosses over all market segments. She has played a key role in the development and strategy of education in the increasingly demanding point of care market since 2007.

John McGahan, MD

John McGahan, MD is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Radiology at the UC Davis Health - School of Medicine. He is a leading interventional radiologist and diagnostic imaging expert. His expertise includes all areas of ultrasound, with special interest in obstetrical ultrasound and CT/MRI of the abdomen and pelvis. Dr. McGahan has pioneered the use of several innovative techniques and used radiofrequency ablation to treat primary/metastatic liver tumors (with results comparable to traditional surgery, but with fewer risks). He has also studied the safety and efficacy of abdominal ultrasound contrast agents in patients with pancreatic, stomach, liver, or kidney disease and is investigating techniques to ablate tumors in the kidney, prostate, breast, and bone. Dr. McGahan was appointed by the American College of Radiology to establish a national accreditation program of ultrasound practices for the United States and Canada. He has authored nearly 300 professional articles, including use of ultrasound mapping of malignant renal tumors. He serves on the editorial board of several scientific journals and has edited eleven textbooks, most recently Fundamentals of Emergency Ultrasound.

Susanna Ovel, RDMS, RVT, RT(R)

Susanna Ovel, RDMS, RVT, RT(R), began her career in 1979 as a radiological technologist at Radiological Associates of Sacramento. She became a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in abdomen and obstetric/gynecology in 1985, a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) in 1993, Pioneer Breast Sonographer in 2002 and Pediatric Sonography in 2016. Susanna has lectured in both introductory and advanced courses in obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography as well as sonography physics and instrumentation at Sacramento City Community College. She was the clinical coordinator for Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center-DMS in Richmond, California. She is a site visitor for the Joint Review Committee–Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Sue is the author of Sonography Exam Review: Physics, Abdomen, Obstetrics and Gynecology 3e. She is a contributing author in radiography and sonography textbooks, as well as instructor materials and test bank ancillaries for Elsevier. She continues to lecture on various sonographic subjects while working as a general and vascular sonographer and clinical instructor at Sutter Imaging Sacramento.

Sara Robinson, BSRT, CIIP, MBA

Sara Robinson has enjoyed a 25-year career in healthcare as a Radiology clinical and industry leader. As a Clinical Applications Medical Science Liaison, Sara supports Radiology providers in implementing and optimizing the use of Bayer products. She develops and provides education to meet the needs of customers externally and strengthen internal Radiology knowledge. Previously, Sara was a Regional Imaging Manager for a multi-facility health system and affiliates. She worked closely with Radiology and specialty physician groups to implement patient focused programs and imaging operations. She led quality improvement and excellence initiatives and shined at raising standard of care. Sara is passionate about employee experience and development. She is currently a member of the Bayer - Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association Partnership Leadership team. She is an advocate for education and mentorship. Sara earned an MBA from Boise State University. Her undergraduate degree is in Radiologic Sciences – Computerized Tomography also from Boise State University. She resides in Meridian, Idaho.

Maureen Sigafoos, CMD, RT(T)

Maureen Sigafoos is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator for the Radiation Therapy Program at National University. She holds a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from National University and Bachelor of Science degree from CSU Long Beach Radiation Therapy Program. She is not only licensed in Radiation Therapy but also Medical Dosimetry. She is dedicated to assisting students reach their full potential and ensuring they are well prepared for the radiation therapy profession upon graduating.

Kevin Turner, B.S.R.T(R)(CT)(MR)

Kevin Turner is a didactic instructor for Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts where he teaches MRI physics and applications. He was trained as a radiographic technologist in the US Army and learned MRI on the job at Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. He completed his Bachelor of Applied Science from Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey.

Gregory Wilson, PhD

Gregory Wilson, PhD has been a Medical Science Liaison with Bayer-Radiology Medical Affairs for the last 3 years. In this role, he provides scientific support regarding Bayer-Radiology products. He is an MRI physicist and has worked for over 20 years in research and clinical support in both academic radiology and industry. In industry, he previously worked as an on-site clinical scientist for one of the major equipment manufacturers, supporting MRI research at academic institutions, managing projects, facilitating customer interactions, and teaching courses. In academic radiology he authored over a hundred manuscripts and meeting abstracts. His research mainly focused on the use of contrast agents in MRI and MR angiography, including fundamental descriptions of T1 and T2 relaxation in whole blood.

Cheryl Young, Ed.D, RT(T)

Cheryl Young serves as Program Director at National University for the Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy program and continues to practice radiation therapy when possible. In addition to her current position, Cheryl is the past president of the California Society of Radiologic Technologists (CSRT) and recently completed the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Leadership Academy. She currently serves on the Radiation Therapy Curriculum Review Committee and is as a member of the AAPM Task Group 314. Cheryl received her bachelor’s in science degree in Radiation Therapy from California State University, Long Beach and completed her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership. She is currently a doctoral candidate at City University of Seattle writing her dissertation on clinical coordinators perception of their role in clinical assessments.

Thank you for your interest in participating in the 2020 Annual Conference Scientific Display Competition. Below you will find the competition guidelines and application process. Failure to comply with the competition rules will be grounds for disqualification.

Please read the rules governing the competition guidelines thoroughly and submit the application below by Friday, October 23, 2020, 5:00pm.

Objectives:

  1. Provide an opportunity to radiologic science students, enrolled in approved California schools, to participate in the professional society.
  2. Provide a monetary award for creativity while learning and educating the public of topics related to radiologic sciences.
  3. Gain recognition of CSRT within the State of California as a leader in radiologic technology education.
  4. Promote student interest and motivation in CSRT.

Student Eligibility Criteria (applies to each student):

  1. A CSRT member or applying for membership at the time of application (visit csrt.org for membership).
  2. Enrolled full-time RT student in a California Department of Public Health approved and JRCERT recognized education program of Radiologic Sciences.
  3. All participants may submit only one PowerPoint presentation for the Annual Conference.
  4. No more than three participants per presentation.
  5. Responsible for requesting his/her own student application forms (one application per presentation.)

Exhibit Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Former awarded exhibits may not be re-submitted.
  2. Presentations may not have been displayed previously at a CSRT Annual Conference.
  3. Presentations must be the original work of the applicant(s) and may not have been commercially prepared. Courtesy recognition will not be allowed.
  4. Proof of referencing must be provided on the final slide of the PowerPoint presentation.
  5. The author's name(s) and institution must not appear any place on the presentation (this would include faculty/student photos, institution logos or pictures, etc.). If illustrations are used, the names of the institution, logos, faculty/student photos, etc., or any identifying marks must not appear in the presentation.

Grant Procedures:

  1. Application forms shall be obtained from the CSRT website.
  2. Completed applications shall be emailed or mailed to the CSRT Scholarship Committee (info@csrt.org) postmarked no later than October 23rd. Late applications will not be accepted.
  3. The Board reserves the right to perform the selection procedures or assign the duties to the Education Committee.
  4. The winning recipients will be announced during the Annual Conference. Recipient(s) will be mailed their monetary award the following week.
