RTEC News

Laura Greico, RT, CRT, President, Radiologic Technology Educators of California

The Radiologic Technology Educators of California (RTEC) meeting was held in conjunction with the CSRT conference on Friday, November 13th, 2009, in San Jose. I am pleased to say that we had five first time attendees at the conference. Attendees received five hours of continuing education.

New Slate of Officers Selected, Leadership Position Advertised: During the Business meeting session a new slate of officers was elected. Dawn Charman will continue as Secretary/Treasurer. Jennifer Yates, Lupe Aldana and Mike Enriquez were elected as Directors-at-Large to add a few more Directors and to replace outgoing officer Leavon Spires. Renee Stone will continue as a Director-at-Large for one more year. Past President Laura Alipoon completes the Board roster for 2010. Still needed are the nomination and election of a President-Elect. President Greico will also complete her final year in 2010. Anyone interested in the office of President-Elect, please contact Laura Greico at lgreico@cypresscollege.edu.

Bylaws to be Reformatted RTEC has been instructed by ASRT to update our Bylaws to follow the same format as all of the state affiliates of ASRT. The Board has already started this process and will probably contact members by email to ratify the changes. We hope to have this process completed by the end of January 2010.

Adell Adams awarded Golden Apple I am pleased to announce the winner of this year’s Golden Apple Award is Adell Adams, a student from the Pasadena City College Program. She expects to complete her program in June of 2010.

RTEC forms Modality Committee While attending the CSRT Board meeting, it was decided that a Modality Committee needed to be formed. I have accepted the position as Chair of this committee and I am looking for any interested RTEC as well as CSRT members. Our goals will be to get more people involved in modalities to participate in the CSRT conference, and involve them as speakers so we can offer diverse topics in the educational portion of the conference. If you are interested in joining this committee, please feel free to contact me.

What Else? 2009 Student Bowl a Success The Student Bowl, with hostesses Dawn Charman and Diane Garcia doing the directing, took place at the conclusion of the conference session, Saturday, November 14. Approximately 80 students entered the competition. Cash and prizes were awarded to the top 21 finishers. First place was awarded to Nick Grillo, SRT, City College of San Francisco. Second place went to Staci Westcott, SRT, Mills Peninsula College, and the third place winner was Rose Yip, City College of San Francisco. A special thanks goes to Dawn and Diane for all their hard work.

RTEC to revive publication. The RTEC Board decided that it was time to resurrect The Forum. If anyone is interested in helping publish or write an article for the publication, please contact Dawn Charman at charman.dawn@yahoo.com.

RTEC Finances in Good Shape I am pleased to announce that RTEC is solvent. We had almost $8,000.00 in our account prior to the RTEC Conference. With meeting expenses, I am sure this amount decreased a bit, but we are looking forward to another successful year. Please remember that we are always trying to gain new members, so try to get all your department faculty and clinical educators to become RTEC members. I hope all of you enjoyed Happy Holidays this year, and I wish you all a healthy and successful 2010!!!
