President's Message

Fred Castillo, RT(R)

Reviewing my Past Year as President

November, 2009, I began the second year of my term as your CSRT President. I want to take a moment to let you, the membership, know what I, with the approval of your CSRT board, have either accomplished and/or have laid the groundwork to accomplish. I have several specific goals in mind.

When I took office, I announced that the main focus of my administration would be to increase CSRT membership. I had concluded that the success of this goal would be based entirely on focusing on new or recent graduates of all Imaging Programs. However, new Membership Chairperson, Mr. Mike Enriquez, offered up the strategy of developing a three-prong plan of action. Mike has recommended that the Membership Committee not only focus on new and recent graduates, but that the Committee include doing all they can to contact those that had been CSRT members that have drifted away for one reason or another. Lastly, we will also focus on technologists who have never joined and recruit them as well.

Moving forward, I have requested that RTEC (Radiologic Technology Educators Committee) be more actively involved in contacting Program Directors and relaying to them the information that needs to be addressed with their students regarding the reasons for joining CSRT. The current President of RTEC, Ms. Laura Greico, is on board with the CSRT and has agreed to work towards communicating to the current members and future members the importance of pursuing this goal of communicating with the students.

Mr. David Poon, Chairperson for the CSRT Student Committee, has been a whirlwind of energy and the driving force behind communicating with students in all California Imaging Programs through his newsletter at: http://www.mediafire.com. The Student Committee is committed to working with RTEC and the CSRT Membership Committee towards strengthening both organizations by helping increase membership in both groups. This would follow the mission of the Committee in focusing on CSRT educational and legislative goals.

In 2009, the CSRT sponsored educational seminars in Northridge, San Diego and Sacramento, in addition to the highly successful, and well attended Annual Conference in San Jose. The CSRT is following up on continuing to host these educational programs.

Vendor/Sponsors of all of our Seminars and of the Annual Conference need to be thanked by all of us and supported whenever and however it is possible. Their names and contact information are available HERE. Please take the time to deliver a much deserved thank you.

The CSRT Board has established several committees that are looking for volunteer help. Contact CSRT President, Fred Castillo, if you have an interest and a little extra time to help out.

I have been and continue to be supported by an outstanding Board of Directors and Officers. All of the Board members invest their personal time to support and enhance the profession of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging. They have been more than willing to participate on all Committees and to offer recommendations for improving the efficiency of the CSRT -- all with the goodwill of the membership in mind. Take a little time to look their names up and thank them for their personal investment on your and our behalf.

Members and CSRT Board, I want to take a moment to thank all of you for being there for me and for offering your criticisms upon which I take the time to ponder, without exception. If it is important to you, it is important to me.

Happy Holidays.
